Government plans to cool Male airport using seawater
Speaking during a ceremony, the minister pointed out that as 35 percent of the country's GDP is spent on fuel everyone must come up with ways to minimise dependency on fuel. Shakeela said that Maldives must look for solar, wind and other forms of renewable energy to overcome that problem. "We can try to create energy with seawater and use it to cool places. We are looking to cool the entire airport using water taken from around 1,000 metres below the surface of the sea in the near future," she said. The ,inister had also highlighted the lack of positive response from state institutions in the bid to curb fuel usage and increase renewable energy sources.
