On the occasion of World Blood Donor Day, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed the Administration's commitment to promoting voluntary blood donation, recognising the invaluable contribution of voluntary blood donors whose generosity helps save lives.
In a post on his official X account, the President noted that the selfless acts of voluntary blood donors ensure that those suffering from lifelong conditions or patients requiring emergency care receive the support they need when it matters most.
The President emphasised that blood remains an irreplaceable resource despite remarkable advancements in medicine and technology, and that voluntary blood donation is essential to safeguarding public health, ensuring effective healthcare delivery, and strengthening national emergency preparedness.
He further highlighted that for a geographically dispersed island nation such as the Maldives, timely access to blood can make a critical difference during medical emergencies, underscoring the importance of strengthening a culture of solidarity and shared responsibility in protecting the health and well-being of all Maldivians.
First Lady Sajidha Mohamed also marked the occasion with a post on her official X account, honouring the kindness of blood donors whose selfless acts bring hope to patients and their families during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. She noted that behind every donation lies a story of compassion, and that for patients in critical care and their families, a donor's contribution can mean the difference between fear and hope. She added that saving lives does not always require grand gestures, and that a simple act of kindness can profoundly change someone's life.
