President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has concluded his visit to the United Kingdom after taking part in the High-Level Briefing on Private Capital Mobilisation in London, hosted by His Majesty King Charles III. The meeting brought together global leaders to explore ways to accelerate private investment in sustainability and climate resilience.
Held under the Sustainable Markets Initiative (SMI), the session convened heads of major multilateral development banks and senior international finance experts to advance strategies that align private capital with global climate and development goals.
During the discussions, President Muizzu outlined the urgent financing needs of the Maldives and other Small Island Developing States, emphasising the pressures they face due to climate vulnerability. He highlighted the importance of scaling debt-for-climate and debt-for-nature initiatives and called for deeper private sector participation in green and sustainable finance.
The President’s attendance, at the invitation of King Charles III, underscored the Maldives’ commitment to securing fair and effective access to climate finance. The briefing is seen as an important step in connecting public climate commitments with the private investment required to meet them.
