Broadcasting Commission has launched an investigation into a song aired on Raajje TV that criticized the government.
During its coverage of the opposition MDP's recent "Fudhijje, Fundijje" rally, Raajje TV broadcast a song written by TV presenter Amir Saleem, which contained criticism of the government.
Broadcasting Commission informed Raajje TV yesterday that it is reviewing the song’s content. However, the commission has not disclosed whether the investigation was initiated independently or in response to a complaint.
Recently, the government appointed two new members to the Broadcasting Commission, including former Ihavandhoo MP and political activist Mohamed Abdulla (Muhamma). His appointment sparked criticism after Parliament approved his name despite initially placing him lower on the list following committee interviews.
During former President Abdulla Yameen's administration, Raajje TV faced multiple investigations and was heavily fined as well.
