President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has affirmed that he is solely accountable to the people of the Maldives for ensuring justice, emphasising the current Government's full commitment to establishing and upholding it.
These comments were made during a media interview at Velana International Airport, just before the President’s departure for an official visit to Malaysia, following an invitation from Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
In addressing the ongoing protests in Malé, the President acknowledged the legitimate concerns of the youth. He assured the public that the Government would listen to these grievances, seek solutions, and work diligently to uphold the rule of law. He further stressed that justice would be maintained under all circumstances and reaffirmed that the Government would not shield or favour any specific party.
The President recognised that significant questions have been raised in the country. He assured that the newly established commission, in collaboration with investigations by the Maldives Police Service, would provide the answers the public seeks. He also stated that any necessary enforcement actions would be swiftly taken.
Reaffirming his earlier promise of justice made when addressing the nation upon assuming office, the President reiterated that he serves the people. He affirmed that his foremost responsibility is to deliver justice and that no individual, regardless of status, is exempt from this duty.
The President also highlighted that crucial measures have already been implemented for the country’s welfare, aimed at ensuring safety, peace, and sustainable development. He emphasised that these actions were taken to uphold public trust and assured the nation that similar measures would continue in response to the current situation.
