Parliament committee approves move to allow import of ADHD medication

The Parliament’s National Security Services Committee has approved allowing the import of a medication for children with Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
The drug involved is methylphenidate, an important treatment for ADHD in children. The Cabinet earlier reviewed a recommendation from the National Drug Control Council on importing the medicine, and sought Parliament’s approval to amend the law to remove the drug from the list of prohibited substances under the Drugs Act of the Maldives.
The parliamentary committee unanimously agreed to the proposal.
ADHD is described as a common developmental condition typically diagnosed in childhood. Medical studies show that medication, along with therapies, can help reduce symptoms and improve outcomes.
