As per the Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM), by 2:00 p.m. today, more than 131,000 people had cast their ballots as the Maldives held three concurrent nationwide polls.
Voting for the Local Council elections, Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections, and a referendum opinion poll commenced at 8:00 a.m. Although a small number of polling stations experienced minor delays, the majority opened on schedule across the country.
According to the ECM, voter turnout had reached 131,947 by 2:00 p.m., accounting for 44.75 per cent of eligible voters. Of these, 63,175 were women and 68,772 were men.
In total, 294,876 individuals are eligible to vote in today’s elections, with 588 polling stations established nationwide to facilitate the process.
