Two eco-friendly, Electric Vehicle (EV) Lumin model cars from the newly inaugurated Male’ Taxi service have been transported to Villimale’.
Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) stated that this is an important step in strengthening transport systems and facilitating public services.
The Male’ Taxi service was officially inaugurated by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu in a special ceremony held at Central Park in Hulhumale’ on 2nd April. This service aims to provide a solution to the difficulties faced in terms of transport within the Greater Male’ region.
The taxi service will consist of 150 taxis in total, providing safe, clean and convenient transport within the Greater Male’ area.
From third to ninth April, this service will be delivered for free, in a bid to seek public remarks and further enhance services, MTCC has informed. During this period, customers may book taxis via the hotline number 1655.
Taxis can be booked via the web application “maletaxi.web.app” after the end of the trial period. MTCC has detailed that the mobile application is currently being developed to provide further ease for customers.
Under the Male’ Taxi service, taxis cannot be hailed from the street for safety purposes. As this is a modernised service, taxis are also tracked and monitored for further protection.
