Lawyers of former President Mohamed Nasheed has said that he does not want anything bad to happen to Maldives.
Hassan Latheef said that if Maldives does not rectify the current political crisis faced by the country then it is very likely that the nation might face the same fate as Burma.
He said that foreign states and international organizations might agree to impose sanctions against Maldives if the government does not resolve the problems and come to common terms with the people.
Hassan Latheef noted that EU and UN also have both imposed sanction against Burma and it is also banned to even invest in the country.
“We do not want Maldives to face such a fate,” he said.
Hassan Latheef said that EU is very closely monitoring the situation of Maldives and it is very likely for them to take action against Maldives in the near future.
