Former President Nasheed is to be prosecuted for unlawfully arresting President Yameen while he was an MP during MDP administration. Police has investigated the case and sent it to PG now.
Prosecutor General Aishath Bisham said that police investigated the case and sent it to PG office on December. In addition to Nasheed, his defence Minister Ameen Faisal is to be prosecuted as well.
Ameen Faisal is being charged for unlawfully taking President Yameen into custody against his will claiming to give him protection. The trial for this case has already begun on 29th December.
At the moment Nasheed is living in the UK. He was sentenced to 13 years in prison for unlawfully arresting the chief judge of criminal court. The government gave him permission to go abroad to seek medical treatment. However, he did not return.
