Finance Minister Inaz resigns

Reliable sources confirmed to Haveeru that Inaz sent his resignation letter to President Mohamed Nasheed today. President's Press Secretary Mohamed Zuhair admitted that the office received a letter from Inaz this morning but said his resignation cannot be confirmed as President Nasheed has not yet read the letter. "The letter is on the President's table. Even if it is the resignation letter, his resignation cannot be confirmed until the President reads it," he said. Haveeru understands that Inaz did not attend work following Tuesday's incident. Inaz's resignation comes hours after State Minister for Finance Ahmed Naseer resigned from his post. Inaz has not commented on the meeting held with opposition Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Parliamentary Group Leader Yamin. Yamin, however, said they discussed on the 2012 state budget. Inaz and Yamin met around 12am inside Yamin's car parked near the Ekuveni grounds Tuesday night. Inaz was taken to the party's camp where he was forced to send a resignation SMS to President Nasheed, who was in Sri Lanka on an official visit at the time.
