Bike rally held in Addu City calling to release Nasheed

A motorcycle rally has been held in Addu City this evening، calling to released the former president Mohamed Nasheed، who has been sentenced to 13 years in prison on terrorism charges.
Addu City youth of opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) organized the rally today which began at 16:00 on Friday، from the ‘Usfasgandu’ of Addu City Feydhoo.
Many youth members of opposition MDP took part in the rally، calling to release their leader Nasheed، and heavily criticized the incumbent president.
Meanwhile، UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention has opinionated that former president Nasheed was imprisoned illegally، should be released and paid with compensation for his days spent in prison.
Maldives Government had stated that it cannot accept the opinion of the UNWGAD.
Former President Mohamed Nasheed was sentenced to 13 years in prison by the Criminal Court on terrorism charges، for abducting criminal court chief judge، Judge Abdulla ‘Gaazee’ Mohamed in 2012.
