Gameloft departs from usual MO to bring out Asphalt Overdrive

Asphalt games have been the most downloaded racing category game in almost all three major Smartphone lines; Android، Windows and iOS. With their Asphalt 8: Airborne still being one of the two downloads in all three Smartphone markets، the game developer changes lanes in bringing a spin-off: Asphalt Overdrive.
This new game departs from the usual Asphalt gameplay where your target is to beat rivals and land in either of the first three ranks to acquire rewards in proceeding to the next level. But it is more like in the same tones of Temple Run، Minion Rush or other runner games.
The gameplay is quite simple in Asphalt Overdrive which sees a retro environment of the rough 80s، and the game features licensed supercars in the said era.
The player controls the lane change of the vehicle while the vehicle drives on its own، but boosting nitro and stunting the vehicle while airborne is under the control player again. It is a 3 lane game which uses the similar runner-game tactic as Minion Rush where the player must swipe left or right to avoid the vehicle from crashing to obstacles which would result in Cops catching up and the vehicle being “busted”. Unlike traditional Asphalt games، this game does not have opponent drivers on the road، it is just you and the traffic!
Asphalt Overdrive features، in-app currency which the player can use for upgrading the vehicle، customizing and also purchasing other vehicles as well.
This new version، which saw its US release on 24th September 2014، cannot be played in offline mode and you would require constant internet connection to play the game. Although the initial download size of the game is around 90MB، the game downloads more contents as you play the game.
Asphalt Overdrive is not just your usual، typical lane-based game، it brings back the 80s era and a very 80s looking California is the game’s main backdrop. With this، the game has various modes، like challenge mode، stunt mode and destruction mode، etc. Giving the player not only just to swipe his fingers to control the vehicle’s lane but also to cause mayhem and chaos and stunts in the game to earn points and rewards.
A spin-off Asphalt، which is exciting، fun to indulge in and has a great gameplay. It is a must-have for the Temple Run and Minion Rush lovers who were looking for something a bit different in the runner-game genre.
