STELCO blames sabotage for overnight power outage in Hulhumale’ Phase II

A one-and-a-half-hour power outage hit parts of Hulhumale’ Phase II on early Sunday, with State Electric Company (STELCO) blaming the latest outage on an act of sabotage.
According to STELCO, power went out from the Vinares towers, some of the Hiyaa powers, and the MPL towers at around 03:30 am Sunday.
The outage left thousands of people who live there without power for around one-and-a-half hours, until electricity services were restored at 04:56 am.
According to STELCO, the power outage resulted from some of the network feeders getting switched off as some people damaged a substation located in Hulhumale’ Phase II.
The state utility company said the incident has been reported to the police.
“This company sincerely asks that you share information regarding individuals who engage in such dangerous acts that cause a public nuisance and also put their lives at risk, in order to stop individuals who carry out such acts and prevent a repeat of such incidents,” appealed STELCO.
The latest incident comes after a similar incident in Addu earlier this month resulted in a person getting electrocuted.
