Two justices appoints to Supreme Court following parliamentary approval

Former High Court Judge Abdulla Hameed and current High Court Judge Mohamed Saleem have been appointed as Supreme Court justices.
Justice Abdulla Hameed and Justice Mohamed Saleem were appointed to the posts at a ceremony held at the President’s Office on Wednesday. The two were sworn in by Supreme Court Justice Aisha Shujune Muhammad, with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu handing over their letters of appointment.
The Parliament earlier on Wednesday voted unanimously in favor of Abdulla Hameed appointment as the Supreme Court justices, receiving 60 votes. Saleem was similarly approved, receiving 61 votes in favour.
Justice Hameed served as a judge of the High Court from December 9, 2007 to June 6, 2002. He was removed from the post by the Parliament.
Saleem holds a bachelor's degree from Kulliyathul Dhiraasathul Islaamiyyaa, and served as a legal officer of the High Court for 12 years. Saleem was sworn in as a High Court judge on August 9, 2022.
