Faiz fired from party council

A top-level party official said the decision was taken at a council meeting. “He was fired due to an ongoing investigation by the police,” the official said. The official stressed that the party would decide on dismissing Faiz from the party based on a court ruling. It is believed that the former Maldives National Broadcasting Corporation (MNBC) chairman and former deputy chairman of Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) was arrested by police whilst trying to sell a sex tape of a judge. Following his arrest on Wednesday, Criminal Court extended Faiz’s detention period by 15 days. He was also dismissed from his post as the housing ministry’s advisor a day after.
