The Health Protection Agency (HPA) of Maldives reports, one of the most popular tourist getaways in the country; Adaaran Club Rannalhi is under their closely monitored properties in light of COVID-19 suspect case.
As of the time of the news, it has not been confirmed if the suspected case have in fact been tested positive or negative while HPA reports one individual is currently under the authority’s screening.
HPA further notes, the test samples were collected from a local employed at the tourist resort.
Though the resort remains under HPA’s closely monitored tourist properties, Adaaran Club Rannalhi was not under a lockdown.
All the positive cases reported from Maldives so far, were discovered from individuals at various tourist avenues; most of which were holiday resorts.
On Saturday, it was confirmed that 03 out of the 13 positive cases found from Maldives have recovered while the remaining 10 were still under treatment.
Meanwhile tourist properties such as Kuredu Island Resort, Sandies Bathala, Anantara Dhigu and Kuramathi Island Resort remain in lockdown while Villa Hotels’ Paradise Island Resort came under lockdown recently.
The rapidly spreading COVID-19 virus has put a strong dent on the Maldivian economy, with several of the local businesses facing the brunt of it.
The island nation majorly is reliant upon the tourism industry; as the country nominally attracts over 1 million holidaymakers on annual terms. Meanwhile, several tour operators and travel agents have reported on booking cancellations.
Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO) had earlier reported on over 1,300 booking cancellations weekly. Additionally the island nation’s Ministry of Tourism reported the reported and filed booking cancellations soared above 100,000.
Earlier Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih bemoaned the island nation will expect a financial loss between USD150 million to USD440 million (approximate figures) in the fiscal year of 2020.
