Presidential candidate of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), former president Mohamed Nasheed has invited presidential candidate of Jumhooree Party (JP) Gasim Ibrahim to support MDP in the second round of the presidential election.
This meeting took place this evening at Gasim’s residence, M. Maafannu Villa.
The meeting was also attended by MDP Parliamentary Group Leader Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
Gasim’s spokesperson Ibrahim Khaleel said that the discussions during this meeting were focused on ensuring peace and order in the country, and that halfway into the meeting, Nasheed invited Gasim to support MDP in the second round of the presidential election.
“Although Nasheed made this suggestion, no discussions took place in this regard. Gasim said that those discussions will depend on the court ruling,” said Khaleel.
Khaleel said that Gasim and Nasheed are political rivals and that they never held any personal grudges against one another.
He further highlighted that Gasim also complied with President of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom’s request to hold a meeting.
