Former President Mohamed Nasheed –who is serving 13 years in prison due to proven terrorism charges– has been placed in home detention.
Nasheed has been placed in home detention for a duration of three days.

Today morning، Nasheed was brought to Male’ to consult doctor.
Correctional media official informed “Vaguthu” that Nasheed has been changed to home detention after doctor prescribed to change Nasheed to a “Stress free” environment.
“Doctor prescribed to change Nasheed to a “Stress free” environment for three days. Therefore [Nasheed] has been placed in home custody for three days.” said official.

Nasheed has been brought from Maafushi Jail at around 8:30 in the morning and after consulting doctor، he has been sent to Male’ prison at around 9:30 in the morning.
An official from correctional services said that Nasheed was brought to consult a Neurologist.
Meanwhile، lawyers of Nasheed had requested to arrange for an MRI scan for Nasheed.
Recently Nasheed was brought to Male’ to consult dentist.
Former president Mohamed Nasheed is currently serving 13 years in jail، a verdict issued for proven terrorism charges for isolating and illegally detaining Abdulla Gaazee in 2012.
A letter signed by Lawyer Hassan Latheef (a lawyer of Nasheed’s legal team) urging for clemency sent to President Yameen stated that President Yameen has the rights to issue leniency to Nasheed under Article 29 of the Clemency Act.
As a response to the letter، President Yameen said that 13 year prison sentence of Nasheed will be commuted once he completes the appeal process.
