Minister of Tourism and Environment Pledges Growth and Pride for Both Sectors

The newly appointed Minister of Tourism and Environment, Thoriq Ibrahim has vowed to work towards ensuring that both the tourism and environment sectors of the Maldives are a source of national pride.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu merged the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy with the Ministry of Tourism to create the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, appointing Thoriq Ibrahim to lead the newly formed ministry. The merger followed the dismissal of the former Minister of Tourism, Ibrahim Faisal.
Following his appointment, Minister Thoriq expressed his commitment to bringing growth and improvement to both the tourism and environment sectors. He pledged to make the Maldives’ flourishing tourism sector a sector of which Maldivian citizens are proud and also one that brings even greater benefit to the country.
"The sectors under the former Ministry of Environment will also be further strengthened. The combination of these two sectors will allow us to achieve important goals. I will work with the aim of ensuring that tourism and the environment are sectors that bring pride,” the Minister said.
