Local Governance Minister Adam Shareef Umar, on Tuesday, stated that women’s efforts to build the nation cannot be matched by men.
He made the remark during a special ceremony held to kick off ‘Anhenveringe Salla’, a workshop.
The Minister cited fostering strong families as the most vital step towards building a nation. He emphasized that strong families are essential for creating a capable society, adding that a nation can only be built upon the foundation of such a society.
“In our Maldives, all these praises rightfully belong to women—our mothers and sisters. The progress we see today is a result of the hard work they have carried. I firmly believe that the contributions of Maldivian women to the nation’s development should be proudly recognized and celebrated by all,” he said.
Minister Shareef also acknowledged numerous contributions by men and their successes. Nevertheless, he said it is women who bear the most important role in all the work done, adding it is women who truly deserve the highest praise and satisfaction from it.
Speaking further, the Minister noted observing stay-at-home fathers and working mothers in the Maldives. In spite of this, he stressed that efforts by women to build this nation cannot be matched by men.
“In educating children, contributing to nation-building, and engaging in social work, the efforts made by women are carried out with much greater enthusiasm and spirit,” he added.
‘Anhenveringe Salla’, a two-day workshop targeted towards Women's Development Committees (WDCs), is aimed at holding discussions to strengthen and empower the WDCs established in cities and islands under the Decentralisation Act of the Maldives. It will address challenges faced by the WDCs, explore potential solutions, focus on ways to empower these committees, and consider initiatives that they can undertake to empower women.
The discussion features participation from 59 members representing WDCs from Malé City, Malé Atoll, North Ari Atoll, South Ari Atoll, Felidhe Atoll, and Mulaku Atoll.
