Development of 5-star resort and hotel school in L. Hulhimendhoo a major opportunity for youth: President

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the development of a five-star resort and hotel school in L. Hulhimendhoo represents a significant opportunity for those currently employed in the tourism sector and those aspiring to join it – particularly the youth of L. Maamendhoo.
The President made these remarks during a meeting with residents of Maamendhoo, as part of his ongoing visit to the inhabited islands of Hadhdhunmathi.
During the meeting, an agreement was signed to establish a hotel school and resort, with Dr Raheema Abdul Raheem, Vice-Chancellor of the Maldives National University (MNU), signing on behalf of the University, while Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, Managing Director of Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), signed on behalf of the developing and operating party.
Several key development projects for Maamendhoo were also signed today. These included agreements for harbour development, land reclamation and shore protection works, as well as the road development project. Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works, Adam Shareef Umar, laid the foundation stone for the new Council Secretariat building, while newly developed laboratory services at the L. Maamendhoo Health Centre were also inaugurated.
The President reiterated his assurance that these projects are a high priority for the Administration and committed to seeking sustainable solutions for the island’s power grid, with work on the Police Station to begin this year.
He further stated that a school development project for L. Maamendhoo and sports initiatives to be implemented in the coming year will be included in the 2026 national budget and completed expeditiously.
