First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has called on healthcare professionals across the country to join hands in caring for newborns.
She made the remarks this morning at Dharumavantha Hospital during the opening of the two-day Neonatal Nurses Conference 2025.
In her address, the First Lady reflected on the Maldives’ history of neonatal care, acknowledging that historical records reveal a journey shaped by heartbreaking challenges. She commended the dedication of healthcare professionals in the field and stressed the urgent need for further progress, including greater investment in facilities, resources, and specialised expertise.
The First Lady also noted the rapid pace of technological advancement across sectors, highlighting that developments in healthcare are particularly significant. Pointing to innovations designed for neonatal care, she emphasised that platforms such as this conference can help open pathways to introduce and implement these technologies in the Maldives.
Reflecting on the theme of today’s conference, the First Lady said it is closely connected to the lives of all Maldivians and reiterated the importance of collective efforts to put its outcomes into practice.
The opening ceremony was also attended by officials from the Malé City Group of Hospitals.
