President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has extended heartfelt Independence Day greetings to the President Alar Karis, and Prime Minister, Kristen Michal of Estonia.
February 24th is celebrated each year as the Independence Day in Estonia, with this year marking it's 108th Independence Day.
In a message sent on social media, President Muizzu has conveyed his good wishes to the government and people of Estonia, wishing them a joyful day and prosperous year ahead.
He highlighted the cooperation between the two countries, adding that bilateral ties have strengthened due to increased exchanges in recent years. He assured that work will be done to maintain a continuous bond between the Maldives and Estonia.
President Muizzu has visited Estonia on an official trip from January 13th to 16th in 2025, marking the first time a Maldivian president travelled to Estonia on an official visit. During this visit, he observed the digital advancements in the country, seeking assistance to develop the Maldives’ technology sector.
Furthermore, the Estonian government and organisations have expressed their support for Maldives, stating that they are prepared for collaboration and mutual understanding. Several agreements have been signed jointly to assist in developing various sectors of the Maldives.
These include agreements for dialogue between the two nations’ governments, assistance in climate change, environmental and energy sectors, the inauguration of bilateral political consultations, and agreements between the Maldives’ Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology and Estonia’s Ministry of Justice and Digital Affairs.
