Membership reduces for all major parties except Adhaaltha

All parties except Adhaalath Party (AP) has seen a reduction in their membership numbers. Elections Commission statistics show that from 3rd of this month until today, all major parties have seen a reduction in number of members, whereas Adhaalath Party membership has increased by 3302 members.
Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), currently the largest political party in the Maldives, and Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), the second largest political party in the country, have both seen a reduction of 400 members.
Statistics published by the Elections Commission (EC) today show that MDP had a membership of 46,112 at the beginning of the month and that the number had reduced to 45,666 members, which show a reduction of 446 members within the past week. The Commission however stated that the party has 1,323 forms that are currently pending approval.
PPM had a membership count of 22,824 members at the start of the month which saw a reduction of 441 members during the one week period. The party too has 1,617 membership forms currently pending approval, stated the Elections Commission.
Jumhoory party (JP) membership count had also reduced from 12,431 at the start of the month to 12,154 up until today, which calculates to a loss of 227 members. DRP membership has also been reduced to 21,411, a loss of 517 members.
One of the newest registered political parties, Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) has also seen a loss of membership to 3,349 members, although statistics show that the party has 7,608 pending membership forms.
Parliament has passed the bill on political parties such that all parties with a membership count less than 10,000 members face to dissolution. There are currently 5 parties with a count higher than 10,000 members.
