Two people were arrested from Hulhumale’ on Wednesday evening with narcotics and over MVR 40,000 in suspected drug money.
The duo was arrested under court warrants in a joint operation by the Hulhumale’ Special Enforcement Team and Counter-Narcotics.
The two individuals arrested in the case are:
Amanath Jaleelu, 28, Unimaage, Dh. Kudahuvadhoo
Ali Abdulla, 48, Hulhumale’ flat 10-G-04, K. Male’
According to the police, they were arrested at around 06:52 pm on Wednesday while driving a motorcycle along Huvandhumaa Hingun in Hulhumale’.
During the search of the individuals and their apartment, police recovered eight packets of suspected narcotics and 23 suspected illegal tablets.

The police also recovered cash amounting to MVR 40,515 and USD 136 - believed to be proceeds from drug trafficking.
The case is under investigation by the police.
Drugs remain one of the biggest social issues facing the Maldives. The police received reports of 1,674 cases involving drugs last year, and 544 such cases so far this year.
