Minister Saeed: President Muizzu’s Efforts in Expanding Global Market Access Yielding Results

Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed has stated that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s proactive steps to secure global market access for Maldivian products are now showing tangible results.
The minister made these remarks in an X post following the signing of an agreement to export Ensis Fisheries products to China under the Maldives-China Free Trade Agreement (FTA). Saeed emphasized that the government’s swift measures have facilitated easier entry for Maldivian products into international markets.
The signing ceremony took place in Beijing, where Ensis Fisheries formalized its entry into the Chinese market. The agreement ensures that all Maldivian fish products exported to China— including fresh, chilled, and frozen yellowfin tuna, grouper species, canned fish, dried fish, skipjack tuna, and other seafood—will be duty-free under the FTA, which came into effect on January 1.
Welcoming Ensis Fisheries' expansion into China, Minister Saeed highlighted the economic benefits of the agreement, noting that increased exports will contribute to the national economy. He further stated that within five years, duties on 90% of Chinese goods imported to the Maldives would be waived, with an additional 20% reduction beyond that, enhancing bilateral trade.
The Maldives-China FTA is expected to drive business growth, create employment opportunities, and strengthen economic ties between the two nations.
