The People’s Majlis has approved the appointment of Aishath Azima of M. Beenaafushi as the Non-Resident Ambassador of the Maldives to Nepal. The decision was made during a parliamentary session today, where 59 out of the 62 members present participated in the vote. All 59 voting members unanimously supported Azima’s appointment to the position.
The nomination of Azima for the role of Non-Resident Ambassador to Nepal was submitted to the Parliament on June 2, 2025. Azima, who currently serves as the Maldivian Ambassador to India, brings a wealth of diplomatic experience to her new role. She previously served as the Ambassador to China for five years and held senior positions at the Maldivian Embassy in India from 2009 to 2014. Azima began her career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1988, marking nearly four decades of service in diplomacy.
Her appointment as Non-Resident Ambassador to Nepal reflects the Maldives’ commitment to strengthening diplomatic ties with Nepal while leveraging Azima’s extensive experience in international relations.
