President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu stated tonight that the Hanimaadhoo International Airport is a confidence booster for parties interested in investing in tourism in the northern region. The President made this statement while addressing the ceremony held tonight to conclude and inaugurate the Hanimaadhoo International Airport development project. Highlighting that developing and expanding tourism in Boduthiladhunmathi (the northern atolls) is one of his presidential pledges, the President said that this work is currently underway. “In the presidential election, I pledged, and we are currently working, to expand tourism to this atoll, to this region. By facilitating matters through this government and easing things for MTDC, work has now begun in Naagoashi. This will be one of the most important steps that will yield the most significant results in bringing tourism to this atoll and solidifying tourism in Boduthiladhunmathi,” the President said. In his speech, the President noted that special concessions have been granted for developing resorts in the Haa Alifu, Haa Dhaalu, and Shaviyani atolls of Boduthiladhunmathi. The President added that many parties have applied under this opportunity. He also mentioned that the process of allocating islands to these parties is currently underway. “Therefore, this airport will certainly bring a significant boost to the confidence of the parties submitting those investments, and also to the advancement of tourism in these atolls in the future. We want results,” the President stated. The President said that this gateway (Hanimaadhoo International Airport) is a very important tool for achieving sustainable development in the Maldives. He added that it is an opportunity for all the residents of Hanimaadhoo, Haa Dhaalu Atoll, and Boduthiladhunmathi. “I urge you to fully embrace this opportunity and start utilizing it. Especially in this atoll, there is not yet an adequate level of tourism,” the President said.
