The Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) will open a Book of Condolence on Sunday in solemn remembrance of one of the true pioneers of tourism in the Maldives, Mohamed Umar Manik (MU Manik).
MU Manik, the esteemed Chairman of Universal Enterprises, passed away at 06:30 local time on the 30th of last month, following a month of dedicated treatment at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore. His absentee funeral prayers were held on the same day at the Islamic Centre.
The opportunity to sign the Book of Condolence will continue until Sunday of next week, located on the fourth floor of the Fasmeeru Building, the home of the MATI office. Signing hours will be observed daily from 09:00 to 17:00, with the exception of Fridays.
MU Manik’s visionary leadership played an instrumental role in laying the very foundation of tourism, which has brought unparalleled development to the economy of the Maldives. His dedication was evident in his pivotal role in the development of the first resort in 1972, a groundbreaking effort that welcomed the inaugural tourists to the Maldives. Beyond his contributions to tourism, he also honorably served the government for over 19 years.
