The Ministry of Tourism and Environment has announced a new call for proposals to develop and operate a tourist hotel in the Baarashu Tourism Zone in Haa Alifu Atoll.
Commenting on the decision, Ibrahim Shujaau, Member of Parliament for the Baarashu constituency, said the H.A. Baarashu tourism zone has been opened for international bidding in line with the presidential pledge of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. He noted that this is the third time a tender has been announced to find an investor to develop and run a tourist hotel in Baarashu.
Shujaau said the opportunity has been structured in a way that is highly favorable for investors and urged business owners from the constituency to seize it.
“I welcome all parties to invest in this historically and naturally rich island, which is just an 8 minute speedboat ride from Hdh. Hanimaadhoo International Airport,” he said.
A total of 71,832 square meters has been allocated in Baarashu for tourism development. The current tender aims to select a party to develop and operate a tourist hotel on this land.
Interested parties are invited to join a virtual information session on Microsoft Teams on Tuesday, 23 December 2025, at 10:00 a.m., and to submit their bids in person at the Ministry of Tourism and Environment on Tuesday, 27 January 2026, at 10:00 a.m.
To participate in the information session, interested parties must email the name, email address, and phone number of the participant to the Ministry at [email protected] before 12:00 p.m. on Monday, 22 December 2025.
The application form required to purchase the bid document is available on the Ministry of Tourism and Environment website (www.tourism.gov.mv). The Ministry stated that bid documents can be obtained from the Ministry’s reception (Velanaage, 5th Floor) or via email between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on all non holiday working days from Wednesday, 19 November 2025, until Monday, 26 January 2026.
The Ministry added that any further inquiries regarding the tender should be submitted via email to [email protected] before 12:00 p.m. on Monday, 26 January 2026.
