The Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) has relocated the voter registry signing process to the Social Centre following the fire incident near its premises.
The move comes after a fire broke out in a warehouse adjacent to the former Drug Court building where the Commission was previously located. In response, the Commission suspended operations at the original site and removed all relevant documents as a precaution.
ECM confirmed that the voter registration process has now resumed at the Social Centre and that the incident will not disrupt the overall election process.
According to the Commission, political parties, candidates and their representatives are currently signing the final register of eligible voters at the new location.
The signing process will take place daily from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and from 9:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.
Candidates or their appointed representatives are required to sign the final voter registry ahead of the elections scheduled for 4 April. The signing process was initially opened on 17 March.
On polling day, three votes will be held concurrently: Local Council elections, Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections and a public referendum.
