President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the air station developed in Funadhoo, Shaviyani Atoll, to strengthen the operational capacity of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) will become operational this year.
The President made the remarks while delivering this year’s Presidential Statement, outlining progress made over the past year to enhance national defence and security.
He said significant strides have been achieved in strengthening the MNDF, including the expansion of Coast Guard capabilities, which have been doubled as part of broader efforts to reinforce the Maldives’ defence forces. The President noted that the largest military vessel donated by Turkey was commissioned into service last year.
Highlighting developments in air capabilities, President Muizzu said the Funadhoo air station forms a key part of ongoing efforts to strengthen air services, confirming that the facility is scheduled to commence operations within the year.
