The Bahraini national airline, Gulf Air, has announced that they would begin trips to the Maldives before the end of this year.
The announcement was made by the Bahrain Ambassador to the Maldives, Mr Abdulrahman Mohammed Al-Gaoud while speaking at the ongoing Maldives Partnership Forum being held at Kurun’ba Maldives resort.
The Ambassador also stated that this decision is likely to help develop the tourism industry in the Maldives even further.
Mr Al-Gaoud also stated that in addition to starting flights from Gulf Air, the Bahraini government and private businesses have expressed interest in investing in the Maldives.
This announcement was made during a time when the tourist arrivals from the Middle East to the Maldives has been on the rise. As such, there have been 53,000 tourist arrivals from the region last year and there have been 19,000 arrivals to the Maldives as of April of this year. This is an increase of approximately 2,000 arrivals.
