Labour Party calls for inclusive allowances in public health

The Maldives Labour and Social Democratic Party, founded late last year and registered in January, has called on the government to include all staff in its public health sector allowance scheme.
In a statement on Sunday, applauding a recent decision to give give doctors and nurses their entitled service allowances during annual leave and off day periods, the party called to extend the policy to other staff at state-run medical facilities as well.
The statement also has the party expressing concern over hospital staff, such as clinical assistants and pharmacists, not being covered under the new policy.
The Labour Party went on to say that it will work within the ‘ambit and extent of the law’ towards attaining the rights of workers in all industries.
The Labour Party has supported the government legislation to start imposing income taxes, and last week announced they are to contest for 11 seats in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
