Corruption case against former state and deputy ministers forwarded to PG

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has forwarded a case to the Prosecutor General's Office (PG) involving former State Minister for Upper-South Province Umar Jamaal and his deputy Mohamed Shareef for hiring 13 individuals through the influence of position, during their time in office.
ACC said in a statement today that Upper-South Province Office had failed to obtain the required permits from the Civil Service Commission and the Ministry of Home Affairs for the employment of 4 employees hired on contract during 2009 and 2010.
The commission also said that during the same period, the province office had also failed to announcement for employment before hiring 13 other individuals, for whom the office had also neglected to seek the proper permits.
The lack of announcements, interviews and permits were a clear violation of the Civil Service Regulation, said ACC.
Asked about the issue during investigation, former Deputy Minister for Upper-North Province Mohamed Shareef said the hiring was conducted following direct orders by State Minister Umar Jamaal.
However, ACC said the investigation showed that Mohamed Shareef was in charge of the staff during 2009-2010 and that all documents were signed by him.
