Defense Minister Adam Shareef Umar have said that a ten million dollar credit line facility with Pakistan will be signed in July.
Talking to the press at the airport after concluding his visit to Pakistan، Minister said that using the credit line، Maldives will acquire weapons and military aircraft. He said that the target is to acquire two aircraft to be used for surveillance and training by the end of this year.
Defense Minister said that he visited to Pakistan after an official invitation from the defense minister of Pakistan. Minister Shareef was able to meet top military officials and even the president of Pakistan during the visit. Defense Minister was also given the chance to see how Pakistan is combating terrorism.
Minister said that his trip was a success and Pakistan is willing to aid Maldives militarily and in other areas as well. In addition Pakistan will provide a cargo vessel for Maldives very soon. Pakistan will also provide expert advise on how to run the newly established counter terrorism center in Maldives. Minister said that the government of Pakistan assured that they are with the people and the government of Maldives.
