Presidential candidate for the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Abdulla Yameen has won the second round of the Maldives 2013 presidential election.
Speaking at the press conference following the announcement of individual ballot box results, Yameen said he will reduce his salary of the president in half, before starting to implement pledges. He also said he will announce cabinet posts related to the economy, tomorrow itself. Yameen said if the presidential security permits, he will continue to live in his own residence.
Yameen won with a difference of 6871 votes against Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) candidate, former president Mohamed Nasheed.
Sun’s election monitoring effort shows that from all 475 boxes counted, Yameen received 110,371 votes (51.61 percent). Mohamed Nasheed received 103,500 votes (48.39 percent).
