Foundation stone laid for largest MNU campus in Laamu Gan

The foundation stone for the largest campus of the Maldives National University has been laid in Laamu Gan at a ceremony held this evening, by students of secondary schools.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chancellor of MNU Dr Mohamed Zahir Hussain said that project initiated today by the university will, in a few years, revolutionise higher education in the Maldives.
Vice Chancellor of MNU Dr Hassan Hameed, while speaking at the ceremony, said that the project will have positive impacts on the atoll’s development.
He said that the current temporary campus facilitates education opportunities for more than 100 students. He said that this facilitates employment opportunities for the youth, which in turn, facilitates the contribution of about MVR 2 million to the island’s development every year.
Dr Hassan Hameed said that this amount will increase with the new project initiated by the university.
The size of the new campus is about 41 hectares, and MNU has said that in addition to the standard courses, courses on agriculture and fisheries will be offered at the new campus.
