With the Ministry of Tourism and Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy being merged to form the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, both the Permanent Secretaries who served at the respective ministries have now lost their posts.
Until the merger, Tourism Ministry's Permanent Secretary was Fathimath Shaufa, who had been appointed last January. Ajwad Mustafa was the Permanent Secretary at the Environment Ministry.
Ajwad, who is amongst the longest serving Permanent Secretaries, lost the post with the recently announced merger of the two ministries.
The law stipulates that once a ministry is dissolved, the Permanent Secretary's post will be dismissed.
An official of the Civil Service Commission said that Shaufa had been dismissed as with the change in mandate, Minister Thoriq wants to announce the post and appoint a new Permanent Secretary.
The official said that before she was dismissed, she was given the opportunity to hand in her resignation.
