Vehicles banned in Male’, Hulhumale’ on Eid al-Adha evening

Both motorized and battery vehicles have been banned in Male’ and Hulhumale’ on the evening of this year’s Eid al-Adha, which falls on Saturday.
According to an announcement by Male’ City Council, a vehicle ban will be in effect for all roads in the greater Male’ area from 16:00pm to 18:00pm in commemoration of this year’s Eid al-Adha.
The Council added that it will be issuing special stickers for vehicles that might be required to travel in emergency circumstances on Friday from 8:30am to 10:30am and 14:00pm to 15:45pm at its Public Service Affairs Department at Thaisey Koshi.
“As such, we inform that motorized and battery vehicles will be banned from operating in Male’ and Hulhumale’ roads on the evening of Eid between 16:00pm and 18:00pm,” the announcement read.
The Council stressed that individuals found in violation of the ban will be penalized.

This year’s Hajj Day will fall on Friday while Eid al-Adha will fall on Saturday.
The government will be celebrating Eid al-Adha on a national scale at three islands: HA. Kelaa, K. Guraidhoo and L. Gan. 
Local Governance Minister Adam Shareef Umar states festive lights would illuminate 65 islands across the Maldives in celebration of Eid al-Adha. This includes 29 islands that were provided with lights last year and 36 islands that received lights for this year’s Eid al-Fitr.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu places a high priority on commemorating occasions stipulated in the religion, such as Eid, with festive events. In this regard, Eid has been celebrated in grandeur at Male’ and various islands since he assumed office.
