Dr Hussain Sunny Umar, who was in charge of travel news under the Maldives Halal Travel brand, has been arrested at the airport while attempting to leave the country, in connection with alleged sexual assault.  
Police confirmed that Sunny Umar was produced before the Family and Child Protection (FCP) Unit on Monday for questioning over the allegations. He was taken into custody at the airport as he attempted to flee.  
According to media reports, Sunny allegedly sexually assaulted three children from his wife’s family. Reports state that one of the victims is a girl and another a boy, both under the age of 18. Some outlets also reported that Sunny had left for New Delhi, India, before being apprehended.  
Sunny’s company, Travel Guys, issued a statement on Saturday acknowledging the seriousness of the allegations and stressing that such actions would not be tolerated. The company assured full cooperation with authorities, emphasizing that the alleged conduct was not connected to its operations or policies.
