Former President and Speaker Mohamed Nasheed, who is contesting the upcoming Maldives Democratic Party (MDP)'s primary elections to be held on January 28, Saturday said he has confidence in the party Chairman Fayyaz Ismail's management of the elections.
At a press conference at his campaign office, Nasheed said voting is something MDP members are used to. The voting will be properly managed and conducted fairly, he said.
"I have confidence in the chairman and the organizing committee. I hope they will take good care of these things," Nasheed said.
Nasheed has said that he has confidence in Fayyaz and the organizing committee while his supporters have repeatedly alleged that they are trying to rig the election.
One proof of that is the removal of thousands of people from the party register, they said.
Nasheed had previously accused Fayyaz of theft during the party's chairperson elections and said that Fayyaz is a corrupt person.
Earlier, Nasheed said the removal of 39,000 members from the party's register was a major concern. He accused the removal of party members from the register and admitting them into other parties was an act of "thievery".
