President of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed has stated the party will achieve further success with Minister of Economic Development Fayyaz Ismail as the party’s chairperson.
In a tweet posted following Minister Fayyaz’s victory in the MDP Chairperson Election, Speaker Nasheed congratulated Fayyaz and his team, as well as his rival candidate Parliamentarian Imthiyaz Fahmy for the competitive election. The speaker said he has no doubt that MDP will achieve further success with Fayyaz as chairperson.
Following the tweet by Speaker Nasheed, Minister Fayyaz thanked the speaker for the congratulatory message. He said with the guidance and assistance of Speaker Nasheed, the party will definitely move ahead in its quest to entrench democracy and the development of the nation.
Minister Fayyaz won the chairperson election with 58% of votes, ahead of Parliamentarian Imthiyaz who won 42% of the votes.
