Gayoom applies for license to create new party
MALE, September 6 (HNS) – Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom yesterday applied for the license to create his new political party, Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM). Gayoom’s son, Farish Maumoon handed over the 50 signatures required for the license along with other necessary documents to Elections Commissioner Fuaq Thaufeeq. After submitting the documents, Farish said the movement would carry out the registration process according to the constitution and laws. “At any instance you observe anything unlawful from us, please inform us as soon as possible. We’ll take necessary actions,” he said. Commissioner Thaufeeq said a new political party would improve the Maldives democratic system. The commission would review the documents submitted by PPM and take a decision within three days, he added.
