The Commission after concluding its investigation is yet to reveal the number of police officers being charged in the case. PIC however, detailed that the case had been forwarded for prosecution after criminal offences were found in the investigation into the beating of MP Mariya by the Police. PIC publicized its report of the investigation in to the allegations of human rights abuses by the police during the dispersion of crowds at the MDP organized protest the day following the transfer of power. The report noted that it had received witness statements and video footage of the human rights abuses committed against former President Mohamed Nasheed, MDP Chairperson Moosa ‘Reeko’ Manik and MP Mariya while they had sought refuge inside Niyaz Store. In addition the report also stressed that witness testimonies and videos received to the investigation show two Police officers beating Mariya on the day. Integrity Commission had also forwarded a case against a Police officer accused of beating Reeko Moosa, for prosecution last month.
