President-elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s inauguration committee has decided to hold an invitation-only ceremony for Solih’s oath-taking, announcing that the ceremony will be closed off to the general public.
RaajjeMV understands that 11,500 individuals are to be invited to Solih’s inauguration ceremony.
At a press conference on Monday, the committee announced that the ceremony will not be open to the public due to security reasons.
Representing the committee, main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s Chairperson Hassan Latheef stated that they had been requested to hold an invitation-only ceremony to maintain the security of high-ranking delegates and officials that will be attending the ceremony.
Latheef further said that the inauguration will take place at the National Stadium, according to Solih's request, on the 17th of November at 1700 hrs.
He added that political parties, former Members of Parliament, former state officials as well as foreign officials will be invited.
Highlighting that Solih’s ceremony will have the largest audience of any Maldives presidential inauguration, Latheef said that a joint committee had been assembled to carry out its organization smoothly. This joint committee includes the Parliament, the inauguration committee assembled by President-elect Solih, the President’s Office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as the police and military.
