Two men have been arrested from a house in Male’ City with 193 grams of drugs last Thursday.
The suspects arrested have been identified as Ahmed Samah, 38, Manzil, Th. Guraidhoo and Mohamed Jamayyil, 35, M. Daisy, Male’.
According to the Police, they discovered substances suspected to be drugs when they searched the house as part an operation conducted jointly by the Drug Enforcement Department and Counter Narcotic Intelligence. Their preliminary weight was placed at 193.3 grams.
Upon presentation before the court for their remand hearing, Samah was remanded in custody pending the outcome of his trial, while Jumayyil was remanded in custody for five days.
The case is under further investigation by the Police.
Notably, Maldives Customs has seized 18 kilos of drugs during an operation conducted on the night of June 10th. No arrests have been made in connection with the drugs, which were discovered while they were being smuggled in the Maldives.
According to a post by Home Minister Ali Ihusan on X, the street value of the drugs will reach MVR 26 million.
