President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu received a petition from the staff of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) on Sunday, after they received their January salaries in accordance with the old employment framework, despite the fact that a new framework took effect at the start of this year.
In the petition, the staff said that a new employment framework passed by the CAA’s board and signed by all the staff took effect on January 1, 2025.
“But despite this, we found out when we received our salaries for January that it was based on the old framework. When we inquired about this, the authority told us that they migrated to the new employment framework without getting all necessary permits from relevant authorities,” wrote the staff in the petition.
The staff noted that the CAA is charged with the legal responsibility to ascertain the safety and security of the Maldivian aviation industry, and monitor the industry.
“…Therefore, the staff of the Civil Aviation Authority wish to meet you to share the sensitivity of this and the concerns we have,” wrote the staff.
They asked for a meeting with President Muizzu at his earliest convenience.
