The Ministry of Homeland has expressed optimism about securing further assistance from the World Bank to support the government’s ongoing national digitalization efforts.
Speaking on a state media program, Project Manager Dr. Ibrahim Waheed said seven key digital transformation initiatives are currently underway with World Bank funding. Among them are projects to modernize the digital network linking local councils and to strengthen the infrastructure and capabilities of the Communication Authority of Maldives.
“We are working to create a society that embraces digital transformation, innovation, and technology,” Dr. Waheed said.
He confirmed that discussions are ongoing with the World Bank to secure additional funding aligned with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s “Maldives 2.0” vision. Based on the progress of these talks, Dr. Waheed noted there is strong potential for expanded financial support.
The government aims to complete the existing five-year digitalization program by 2027.
